Abstract

We successfully developed an effective and sustainable synthesis of a number of substituted quinazolinone derivatives using a one-pot multi-component Biginelli type condensation reaction of aromatic aldehydes, urea, and dimedone in the presence of Zn(OAc)2•2H2O as a Lewis acidic catalyst in toluene under reflux conditions. This low-cost, environmentally friendly methodology has several advantages, including high catalytic activity, great yields, convenience of use, a wide range of functional group tolerance, and a column-free approach.
